Originally, school’s athletic teams were known as ‘The Old Liners?. Since Maryland?s nickname was ‘Old Line State’. But then Curly Byrd suggested in 1932, that the name be changed to diamondback terrapin which is after a type of land-dwelling turtle, since Byrd spent his childhood in Chesapeake Bay, where the species is common. Then, to shorten the headlines in the newspaper, they started referring them as ?the Terps?. The abridged name remained and currently the official team name of the school. The school?s mascot is named Testudo, which is a diamondback terrapin. Testudo means ‘turtle’ in Latin. The word has been used as a scientific nomenclature in species related to the reptile like, the order Testudine and family Testudinidae. Furthermore, the name most probably came from the ancient Roman military scheme, in where soldiers completely enclose their infantry square with their shields in order to guard them from projectiles. Important Moments and Accomplishments
Maryland is third to the most ACC championships with nine following Florida State with 12 and Clemson with 13. And with that, most of the former Terrapin players and coaches have become part of the professional football world.
In the year 2001, when Ralph Friedgen became the as head coach of Terrapins, they experienced a moment of renaissance since they won the ACC Championship that year. Maryland Terrapins College Football Recent News
During the end of 2007, Maryland had ended the year with a little dissatisfaction with having 6.7 lackluster post-season records. And this year 2008, Maryland Terrapins football team embodied their University of Maryland in the 56th season for the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Terps would encounter the toughest line up with Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Virginia, Boston College, NC State, Clemson, Wake Forest and Califormia. Since last December 2007, there had been an announcement that James Franklin, the former Terps wide receivers coach would be returning, from Kansas State. This is in order to be the offensive coordinator. Hence with that, it will make 2008 more exciting. Furthermore, since last January 2008, after Maryland’s Emerald Bowl was overpowered by Oregon State, Erin Henderson, the star linebacker of the team announced that he would be going with the Terrapins for the final season to be able to enter the 2008 NFL Draft. Therfore, this year, 2008, would offer an ambitious game with a powerful passing quarterback Chris Turner which fills up for the injured Jordan Steffy. Moreover, with the prospect of NFL, Darrius Heyward-Bey together with several fast and skilled receivers and with West coast?s offense oriented strategy, James Franklin, you surely will have a good game. This season would indeed be something to look forward for. If you are a fan of the Terps, this is one of the moments you would want to get the front row tickets.

FSU are younger and will have to play with a lot of patience and maintain their composure, if they have to upset the Dukes. If they don’t respond well to the challenge thrown to them, by the stronger Dukes, then a 10-2 Duke run will climb to a 23-2 Duke run.
The Dukes have created havoc on the court, this year. They not only defeated their opponents but left them with nothing at all. The Blue Devils don’t only defeat their opponents, they demoralize them and leave them panting on the court.
The Blue Devils, pulverized Virginia Tech with a stunning margin of 30-9 and against Xavier, currently ranked 16 in the country, they extended their 20-3 lead to 31 points just by the half time. With the runs of 19-0 (against Presbyterian), 15-0 (Georgia Southern), 11-0 (Rhode Island), 30-9 (Montana), 23-6 (Duquesne), 27-8 (UNC-Asheville) and 30-12 (Loyola-Maryland), the Devils have emerged as a brute force this season.
The biggest strength of the Devils is their runs; they just don’t let the opponents score. They can keep doing that throughout the game and against most of the teams.
But the Seminoles have their advantages as well. The biggest one is playing the Devils at home, instead at Duke. The Seminoles just have to be composed against the game changing Duke runs and keep taking good shots every now and then. FSU need to remain unfazed by the game the Devils play and play the game at their strength, sticking to the strategies that get them shots.
The Devils do get the opposition frustrated by the very nature of the game they play, but still they are not impossible to take shots at. Mature and patient teams succeed in doing so. Like the time both the teams played each other at Tallahassee, where Dukes scored 16 straight points in the first half to take a lead of 17 points, but then Seminoles slowly narrowed the lead and finally surpassed it to lead the game 55-54, but weren’t able to maintain the lead and lost in the last 3:45 minutes.
They lost their nerves back then; otherwise they could have defeated the Devils. So it is all about keeping a cool head and not letting the Devils dictate the terms, they will try hard no doubt about it, but with a support from the home crowd, perfect execution of strategies and being composed the FSU can pull off an upset against the Dukes.

North Carolina State Wolfpack College Football Recent News
In a renewal of the rivalry that dates back in the year 1924, Wolfpack and Blue Devils meets at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The Wolfpack players would only want to end the four-game losing streak that flickers their interest. However, their coach Tom O?Brien is not familiar with the rivalry and had faced the Blue Devils only once in a dozen years.
With a record of 10 straight victorious games over the Blue Devils, the Wolfpack were off last week and in the 34 days prior to the contest, they will play just two games. They indeed need the time to slowly receive the preseason?s injured players. Their time off were also spent in trying to mingle with other players and making an effort to spend more time together. Moreover, the time was allotted in order for them to improve their defense after the Maryland game which ranked them last in the defense league.
The lineup was also changed during the off week with defensive end Willie Young and linebacker Audie Cole returning to the starting lineup and cornerbacks DeAndre Morgan and Koyal George still fighting for one of the starting cornerback starting jobs.
Nonetheless, their coach had seen a significant improvement in the team?s last three games. In the final period, they had a combined final margin of 19 points. Furthermore the coach emphasized that since there are some guys whose careers are about to end it is imperative that they would have a good game now.
Since they have four more games left, the team is aiming to have the bowl eligible. But before they could aim for the fourth one, they are making sure to win the first one. This season is really something to look forward for. Will they win the bowl this year? Buy their ticket and see for yourself?

The 49ers on the other hand will be entering the court with a 5-6 record. The 49ers have won four games straight after losing six games earlier in the season.
The Terrapins have had an excellent record playing at the Comcast Center, so far they have won 8 games and lost none this season, and they still have three games to go. Charlotte on the other hand has won its last four games, including road game wins at Southern Illinois and Mississippi State and home wins over Youngstown State and Long Island. The matches, lost by the 49ers, either came in the overtime or just one point losses. Charlotte trails in the all time series against the Terps, 0-2. The last encounter between the two was won by Maryland, 76-72, in the last season.
49ers have some brilliant players like senior forward Lamont Mack, averaging 12.2 points per game. Senior forward Charlie Coley leads the rebound for the 49ers, and DiJuan Harris is averaging 6.0 assists per game.
With both teams equally poised it will be any one’s game at Comcast Center. It will be an exciting start for both the teams and for their fans too.
